Who Benefits from Sedation

Sedation Isn’t Just for Anxious Patients

If anything has ever made dental care hard for you, sedation is the answer. Comfort you can feel — from start to finish. With specialists on staff, we can complete all of your treatment in one visit in most cases — from root canals to extractions, implants, crowns, and veneers, we can do almost anything you need while you are sedated. From a simple cleaning to complex dental procedures, there is no reason to fear and no reason to delay needed dental work — it’s safe and comfortable. Our surgical suites are expansive and fully equipped to complete your treatment in one visit in most cases.

Dental Anxiety

Mild nervousness or severe phobia — sedation brings your anxiety all the way down. Get the care you’ve been putting off, comfortably.

Complex or Long Procedures

Oral surgery, multiple extractions, full-mouth restoration — we do more in a single visit while you stay completely comfortable throughout.

Sensitive Gag Reflex

A strong gag reflex can make treatment impossible. Sedation relaxes the reflex response so treatment proceeds smoothly — and you feel nothing.

Special Needs

Patients with physical, cognitive, or developmental differences benefit from sedation for thorough, comfortable, dignified dental care.

Stress Less. Smile More.

Every Level of Comfort. All Under One Roof.

Nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV deep sedation — all available here. Your dentist recommends the right option based on your needs.

Specialists, dentists, and on-site lab technicians all working together — in most cases we can fix and replace your teeth in one visit. While you’re sedated, we complete as much of your planned treatment as possible.

Common Questions

Sedation Dentistry FAQs

Will I be completely unconscious with sedation?

It depends on the level. Nitrous oxide keeps you fully awake. Oral sedation makes you very drowsy — most patients drift in and out of light sleep. IV sedation produces a deeper state where you won’t remember anything. None are general anesthesia, but IV deep sedation gets as close as you can get in a dental office. Our board-certified anesthesiologist manages the entire process.

Does Island Dental have an anesthesiologist on staff?

Yes — and that’s a rare thing. Island Dental has Dr. Kevin Glassman, a board-certified dental anesthesiologist, on staff for over 25 years at our Franklin Square and Levittown locations. This means IV sedation is administered by a trained specialist with decades of experience, not just a dentist with a weekend certification. Comfortable, safe, and the best experience ever. It’s one of the most significant reasons patients choose us for complex or anxiety-driven care.

Is sedation covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan and procedure. Sedation for oral surgery or complex cases is more likely to have some coverage. We verify your benefits before your appointment and explain your out-of-pocket costs in advance — no surprises. 0% financing is available for anything insurance doesn’t cover.

Can my child receive sedation?

Nitrous oxide is safe and commonly used for children. We evaluate each child individually and always use the most conservative option for their age, weight, and health. Schedule a free consultation to discuss what’s right for your child.

How do I prepare for a sedation appointment?

For IV sedation, you must fast — no food or drink except small sips of water — for at least 6–8 hours before your appointment. You need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day. Wear comfortable clothing and skip jewelry and contacts. We walk you through every detail at your free consultation.

Can I be sedated for a routine cleaning?

Absolutely. Sedation is available for most procedures at Island Dental — including routine cleanings. If dental anxiety has kept you away, this is how you get back on track. Schedule a free consultation and we’ll find the right comfort level for you.

What is the difference between oral sedation and IV sedation?

Oral sedation is a prescription pill taken before your appointment — moderate relaxation, no IV needed. IV sedation, delivered by our board-certified anesthesiologist, provides much deeper sedation with precise real-time control — ideal for complex procedures or severe anxiety. Both mean you’ll remember little to nothing. We recommend the right level at your free consultation.

How much does sedation cost at Island Dental?

Costs vary based on the type of sedation and length of your procedure. We discuss everything at your free consultation and provide a clear estimate before your appointment. 0% financing is available — we never want cost to be the reason you don’t get comfortable care.
