Common Questions

Invisalign™ Process FAQs

How often do I change my Invisalign™ aligners?

Most patients switch to a new set of aligners every 1–2 weeks, depending on their treatment plan. Each new set applies gentle pressure to continue moving your teeth toward their final position.

How many hours per day do I need to wear Invisalign™?

For optimal results, wear your aligners 20–22 hours per day. Remove them only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing/flossing. The more consistently you wear them, the more predictable your results and timeline will be.

Can I eat and drink with Invisalign™ in?

You can drink water with aligners in. For everything else — food, coffee, tea, soda — remove your aligners first. This prevents staining and damage to the trays. Brush your teeth before putting them back in.

Do Invisalign™ aligners hurt?

You’ll feel mild pressure and tightness when you switch to a new set of aligners — this is normal and means they’re working. The discomfort is usually mild and subsides within a day or two. Most patients find Invisalign™ significantly more comfortable than braces.

What are refinements and do they cost extra?

Refinements are additional aligners created after your initial set to fine-tune the final result. Not every patient needs them, but they’re included in your treatment cost at Island Dental at no additional charge. Certain restrictions apply see office for details.
