Frequently Asked Questions

Dental Implant FAQs

Everything you need to know about dental implants at Island Dental Associates on Long Island.

Does the implant procedure hurt?

Most patients report the procedure is much more comfortable than they expected. Island Dental offers IV sedation administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, as well as nitrous oxide and oral sedation. Post-procedure soreness is typically managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. We also use PRF Plasma therapy to accelerate healing and reduce discomfort.

How long does the dental implant process take from start to finish?

From the procedure to final restoration, approximately 3 months to allow for healing. With our in-house lab and same-day protocols, many patients get temporary teeth the same day as the procedure and have their final restoration placed sooner than average. You are never without a smile.

How long do dental implants last?

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. The titanium post permanently fuses with your jawbone. Island Dental backs every implant with our 100% satisfaction guarantee — we stand by our work because we build them to last. Lifetime success is our goal for every patient.

Does insurance cover dental implants at Island Dental?

Coverage varies by plan. We coordinate your insurance benefits, maximizing every dollar of coverage you have. We verify your benefits before treatment so there are no surprises. 0% financing is also available through multiple lenders including CareCredit, HFD, CreditWorks, Cherry, Sunbit, Alphaeon Credit, and Happen Bank. We make it easy. Subject to insurance approval and benefits available.

What if I don’t have enough bone for an implant?

Many patients who have lost bone after tooth loss can still get implants after a bone graft procedure. We assess bone density during your free CT scan and will recommend the right approach for your specific situation. Our periodontists Dr. Mittle and Dr. Kay and work together to evaluate every case.

Can smokers get dental implants?

Yes. Smokers and non-smokers — we evaluate each case individually. While smoking can slow healing, many smokers are still good candidates for implants. We may recommend certain precautions to optimize your results. Come in for a free consultation and CT scan and we will review your options.

What is the difference between All-on-4, implant-supported dentures, and a hybrid bridge?

All-on-4 is a fixed, permanent restoration that stays in your mouth at all times. Implant-supported overdentures snap onto implants but can be removed for cleaning. A hybrid bridge uses a titanium bar with zirconia or acrylic teeth which are fixed to implants for the most durable full-arch solution. All three options are available at Island Dental — the right choice depends on your goals, budget, and lifestyle. We will review it all at your free consultation and CT scan.

Do you offer sedation during implant procedures?

Absolutely. We offer IV sedation administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist, as well as nitrous oxide and oral sedation. Most patients choose some form of sedation for maximum comfort during the procedure. Sleep and wake up with a new smile.

What dental specialists perform implant procedures at Island Dental?

Island Dental has a full team of specialists under one roof: a Periodontist who places the implants, a prosthodontist who designs and fabricates your custom restoration. Periodontists Dr. Vikas Mittle and Dr. Marc Christian Kay who manage gum and bone health and implant placement, an orthodontist, an endodontist, and a board-certified anesthesiologist for IV sedation. All done in one place.

Is the dental implant consultation really free at Island Dental?

Yes. Your initial implant consultation includes a CT scan, a thorough oral exam, and a personalized treatment recommendation. The CT scan is included with your free consultation in most cases. We want you to have all the information you need before making a decision. Second opinions are always welcome at Island Dental in Franklin Square and Levittown.

Can I get dental implants if I currently wear dentures?

Absolutely. Many of our patients upgrade from traditional dentures to implant-supported solutions. Whether you choose a fixed All-on-4, implant-supported snap on overdentures, or a hybrid bridge, the improvement in comfort, stability, and confidence is life-changing. No one will know you ever wore dentures.

What is PRF Plasma therapy and does Island Dental offer it?

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) therapy uses your own blood platelets to accelerate healing after the implant procedure. Island Dental in Franklin Square and Levittown offers PRF as part of our advanced implant protocols — it promotes faster healing and better long-term results. This is not offered at most dental practices on Long Island.

How many implants does Island Dental place for a full arch?

While some practices use exactly 4 implants for a full arch, Island Dental places 4 or more implants per arch in most cases — providing a stronger, more stable foundation for your final restoration. More implants means better distribution of chewing force and lifetime success.

Can I get same-day dental implants on Long Island?

Yes. Island Dental in Franklin Square and Levittown offers same-day dental implants. Replace your teeth permanently with dental implants the same day in a few hours on site. Our lab on premise makes same-day teeth replacement possible — you walk in with a problem and walk out with a smile.

What are the final teeth made of for full-arch implants at Island Dental?

For full-arch restorations, Island Dental uses zirconia final teeth mounted on a titanium bar in most cases — the most durable combination available. Zirconia is strong, natural-looking, and biocompatible. Zirconia crowns and bridges are also available for single and multi-tooth restorations. Your final restoration is custom-designed and crafted in our on-site lab.

What financing options are available for dental implants at Island Dental?

Island Dental offers 0% financing with a 96% approval rate. We use many lenders including CareCredit, HFD, iCredit Works, Cherry, Sunbit, Alphaeon Credit, and Happen Bank. Terms from 3 to 36 months available. Insurance accepted. One cost and lower than you think. We will review it all at your free consultation and CT scan. Credit subject to approval.

What are implant-supported overdentures?

Implant-supported overdentures are snap-on dentures secured by 2–4 implants. They provide far more stability than traditional dentures — no slipping, no adhesives — but can still be removed for easy cleaning. Island Dental offers implant overdentures as a more affordable alternative to fixed All-on-4 restorations. Both options are available at our Franklin Square and Levittown offices.

Does Island Dental work with all implant brands?

Yes. We work with most major implant brands and can restore your implants regardless of where they were originally placed. If you have existing implants that need attention, come in for a free consultation and CT scan. We will review your case and recommend the best path forward.

Does Island Dental have a periodontist on staff for implant patients?

Yes. Island Dental has two periodontists on staff — Dr. Vikas Mittle and Dr. Marc Christian Kay — who specialize in gum health, bone health, and implant placement. Having periodontists, an oral surgeon, and a prosthodontist all under one roof means your implant care is fully coordinated — no outside referrals needed. All done in one place on Long Island.

Do you speak Spanish at Island Dental?

Yes. Se habla Español. Island Dental is proud to serve our Spanish-speaking community at both our Franklin Square and Levittown locations. We want every patient to feel comfortable and understood from the first consultation through their final smile.

What is a hybrid bridge and is it different from All-on-4?

A hybrid bridge is a type of full-arch implant restoration that uses a titanium bar framework with zirconia or acrylic teeth attached. It is fixed permanently to your implants — it never comes out. All-on-4 is a specific technique for placing implants, while the hybrid bridge is the type of final restoration. At Island Dental, our on-site lab fabricates hybrid bridges in-house for better fit, faster turnaround, and lifetime durability.
