If you’re considering getting dental implants, you’re not alone. Dental implants have become increasingly popular in recent years, and with good reason. They’re a great way to improve your oral health and restore the look of your smile. But when exactly do you need them? Island Dental Associates is here to answer that question. In this blog post, we’ll explain when dental implants are necessary and how they can benefit your dental health.

You have lost one or more teeth

If you’ve lost one or more teeth, dental implants from Island Dental Associates in Franklin Square, NY may be a great solution. Dental implants are a popular option for replacing missing teeth as they provide a long-term solution for restoring your smile. Dental implants involve surgically placing an artificial tooth root into the jawbone, which provides a secure foundation for the replacement tooth. The implant acts like an anchor, allowing the replacement tooth to feel and function just like a natural tooth.

Dental implants offer numerous cosmetic benefits. The implant can help to fill in gaps between teeth, improving the overall look of your smile. In addition, dental implants can help to preserve the health of your jawbone and can even provide facial support. With dental implants, you will have a natural-looking and beautiful smile that looks and feels just like your own. At Island Dental Associates, we specialize in cosmetic dentistry, and our team of experts will ensure that you get the best results possible with your new dental implants.

Your teeth are severely damaged

If your teeth are badly damaged, it can be difficult to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. This is when Island Dental Associates may recommend dental implants to restore your oral health. Dental implants provide the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. They are permanent and secure solutions for tooth loss, allowing you to resume your normal life without worrying about your teeth.

Dental implants can also be used for cosmetic dentistry purposes. They can replace missing or damaged teeth, fill gaps in your smile, and restore a beautiful, natural-looking smile. At Island Dental Associates, our team of experts can help you determine whether dental implants are the right choice for your oral health needs. We will work closely with you to ensure that you get the best results possible.

Your teeth are loose

If you have teeth that are loose, you may be in need of dental implants. At Island Dental Associates, we specialize in Cosmetic Dentistry and can help you determine if dental implants are the right solution for your needs.

Dental implants are an excellent solution for replacing missing or damaged teeth. They are used to provide support and stability to teeth that have been lost due to decay, injury, or trauma. The implant is placed directly into the jawbone and is then fitted with a prosthetic tooth. This helps to improve the appearance of your smile and prevent further damage to your oral health.

At Island Dental Associates, our Cosmetic Dentistry team can assess the condition of your teeth and discuss if dental implants are the best solution for you. We will work closely with you to determine the best course of action and help you achieve the best possible outcome.

You have gaps in your teeth

Are you living with gaps in your smile due to missing teeth? Missing teeth can cause embarrassment, and discomfort and lead to additional dental problems if not addressed. Fortunately, Island Dental Associates offers a range of options to help fill those gaps and restore your smile.

Cosmetic dentistry offers many solutions to replace missing teeth, including bridges, dentures, and dental implants. Each solution offers its own benefits depending on your needs and budget.

Dental bridges are a popular option for replacing missing teeth. Bridges are typically made of porcelain fused with metal or ceramic and are held in place by attaching them to the natural teeth surrounding the gap. The bridge is designed to look just like your natural teeth, making it a great choice for restoring your smile.

Dentures offer a cost-effective option for replacing multiple teeth. They are custom-made for each patient and come in either partial or full sets, depending on the number of teeth you need to be replaced. Dentures are removable and comfortable, providing you with the ability to chew and speak naturally.

Finally, dental implants provide the closest thing to natural teeth. Dental implants are metal posts that are surgically implanted into the jawbone and act as a foundation for replacement teeth. Implants are permanent and look just like natural teeth, so they provide a long-term solution to missing teeth.

If you have gaps in your teeth and need help finding the right solution, visit Island Dental Associates. Our team of experienced cosmetic dentists can evaluate your needs and recommend the best solution for your smile.

Dental implants are a great solution for missing teeth

At Island Dental Associates in Franklin Square, NY, we understand how difficult it can be to lose a tooth. A missing tooth can cause embarrassment and insecurity, not to mention affecting your overall dental health. That’s why we recommend dental implants for our patients.

Dental implants are a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth. They are surgically inserted into the jawbone and fuse with the existing bone over time, creating a strong foundation for the implant. Implants look and feel just like natural teeth and can help restore the appearance of your smile.

Dental implants also have many other benefits. They can help prevent gum disease by keeping bacteria away from the gum line. They are also very durable and can last for years with proper care and maintenance.

If you are missing a tooth or teeth and want to restore your smile, dental implants may be the best option for you. Island Dental Associates can help you determine if implants are right for you and provide you with the care and guidance you need to make sure your new smile lasts a lifetime.

The surgery is usually quick and painless

Getting dental implants is a quick and painless process when you visit Island Dental Associates. Our experienced team of dentists is trained to make sure that the surgery is quick and as comfortable as possible. The procedure itself usually only takes an hour or two, depending on how many implants are being placed. Local anesthesia is used to ensure that patients don’t experience any discomfort during the surgery. Afterward, patients may experience some mild swelling and soreness in their gums, but this should quickly resolve with over-the-counter pain medications. With proper aftercare, including regular brushing and flossing, your dental implants can last for decades!

There is a short recovery period

At Island Dental Associates, our team of professionals strive to make the dental implant procedure as comfortable and straightforward as possible. After the implant surgery, you may experience some discomfort for a day or two. Swelling and bruising can occur but can be easily managed with ice packs and over-the-counter pain medications.

During the healing period, your dentist may prescribe antibiotics and other medications to reduce inflammation and prevent infection. Most patients will find that their recovery period is relatively short and that their implants become fully integrated into the jawbone within a few months. With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime and provide you with a beautiful, confident smile.

Dental implants are very strong and durable

Dental implants are a fantastic solution for missing teeth. With the ability to last for up to 15 years or more, you can count on dental implants from Island Dental Associates to remain strong and durable. Unlike bridges and dentures, which need to be replaced every 5-7 years, dental implants can last much longer. In addition, they are built to be just as strong as natural teeth so you won’t have to worry about them breaking or coming loose like other restoration options. The implant itself is made of titanium and the tooth replacement material is often ceramic or porcelain. This combination is extremely strong and durable and provides a great long-term solution for missing teeth.

They look and feel just like natural teeth

Dental implants are designed to look and function just like your natural teeth. Our team at Island Dental Associates can help you achieve the perfect smile with our dental implant solutions. After the implant is placed, it will blend in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth, and no one will be able to tell the difference.

The implants are made from high-quality materials that are strong and durable, giving you the confidence to talk, chew, and smile without worrying about your teeth slipping or shifting. They also feel just like your natural teeth when you eat, speak, or smile. You can also brush and floss your implant as you would a natural tooth.

At Island Dental we answer a lot of questions from our patients about dental implants. To make it easier for our patients, we have dedicated an entire page to the most frequently asked questions we have been asked. Even so, there are some questions that are not listed on the page and we want to share them with you:

If you have any questions about the dental implant process or procedure, or if you would like to know if you are a candidate for dental implants, you can contact our dentists at Island Dental Associates in Franklin Square to schedule an appointment. Your dentist has referred you to a periodontist and you have some questions. What is a periodontist? And, what services do they provide that your dentist doesn’t provide?

A periodontist is a dental specialist with three years of extensive post-graduate training after completing dental school. The specialized training they receive focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases that affect the gums and the bone supporting the teeth. They are also trained in oral plastic surgery and can treat conditions such as loose teeth and receding gums. In addition, they are trained in the placement of dental implants. A periodontist provides other specific services, including scaling and root planing, the debridement of the root surface, treatment of oral inflammation, sinus augmentation procedures, and cosmetic periodontal procedures. Periodontists are trained to recognize illnesses that affect the oral cavity and they can help in the diagnosis of conditions that include cancer, diabetes, and viral infections.

Your dentist is the person you visit for general dental care. They will conduct your regular oral and dental health checkups. Because you see your dentist on a regular basis, they will have a better understanding of your dental health and history and are better able to provide you with a wider array of treatments. Your dental procedures, such as an X-ray, filling cavities, veneers, bonding, teeth whitening, crowns, and bridges are all procedures that your dentist will be able to resolve. If you need periodontal care that doesn’t require surgery, your dentist should be able to perform the procedure.

Most dentists are able to treat less serious cases of periodontal disease but many dentists will refer their patients to a periodontist if the situation is more challenging. While some dentists are able to perform dental implant procedures, if the implant is more serious and challenging, they will refer those to a periodontist too.

While there are differences between dentists and periodontists, they are both dental specialists whose primary goal is to make sure your smile is healthy and beautiful. With regular visits to your Island Dental dentist, your dentist will be able to see evidence of periodontal disease and refer you to a periodontist for treatment if the need arises.

Upon the recommendation of your Island Dental dentist, you’ve decided to get dental implants. It may be because you’ve lost one or more teeth due to periodontal disease, sustained an injury or accident, or you don’t want to wear dentures. Dental implants can be used to replace one or more missing teeth and also secure dentures.

Are you a Candidate for the Dental Implant Procedure?

You are a good candidate for a dental implant because you meet one or more of the following conditions:

The Dental Implant Procedure

The dental implant procedure is an inpatient surgical procedure that involves three visits to the Island Dental office in Franklin Square. The first visit is to prepare your jawbone for the procedure, the second visit is to put the implant post into your jawbone, and the third visit is for the final adjustment and bite. You will be given general anesthesia and will be asleep throughout most of the procedure. Your gum tissue will be numbed with a local anesthetic while the implant guideposts are placed in your jawbone. After that, the dental titanium post will be placed in the proper position and fitted to both the gum and bone. After the procedure, your dressings will be removed and you will be woken up. Your Island Dental dentist will measure the distance between your jawbone and the implant, adjusting the remaining parts to the implant in order to form an attractive appearance and a stable fit.

Once your implant has become fully osseointegrated or integrated into your jawbone, you will return to the office so we can make a dental crown for the implant. The crown will be placed onto the connector that is attached to the implant. Once it is bonded, the implant post will never need to be repaired or replaced and can last a lifetime. The dental crown that is placed on the implant may need to be replaced at some point between seven to 15 years.

Recovery After a Dental Implant Procedure

After your dental implant procedure, you may feel a bit groggy for a few hours. You will need to arrange beforehand with someone to take you home after the procedure. You may experience some minor bruising and swelling, minor bleeding, and pain. You will be asked to eat soft foods for a certain amount of time while you are healing.

Are You Ready to Get Dental Implants?

Taking good care of your implant crown and preventing damage to the tooth will affect the life of your dental implant restoration. You don’t get tooth decay with a dental implant but you can be affected by periodontal disease, so it’s important to practice good dental care and continue with regular care from your Island Dental dentist. Overall, dental implants have a success rate well in advance of 95% but you need to make sure that you practice good oral hygiene and return to the office for regular dental visits.

‌Your Island Dental dentist has told you that you need to get some work done. It’s not that you need to replace your tooth and a filling isn’t going to solve the problem you have. The options presented to you are either a veneer or a crown but what are the differences between the two? ‌

Crowns and veneers are both considered dental restoration procedures. They can help to improve the appearance and function of your teeth but a veneer covers the front of your tooth and a crown covers your entire tooth.

Veneers

A dental veneer sometimes referred to as porcelain veneers, is a very thin layer of tooth-colored material that is bonded to the front of your existing tooth. A veneer is used to correct teeth that have been discolored as a result of:

Veneers are also used to repair teeth that have been worn down, chipped, broken, misaligned, or have gaps between them. In order for a veneer to adhere to your tooth, you need to have enough tooth enamel for the veneer to bond to it.

Veneers can provide several advantages, including:

Some of the disadvantages with veneers include:

Crowns

A crown covers your entire tooth. It can be composed of either all porcelain, porcelain fused to a metal alloy (PFM), or all-metal. Crowns are tooth-shaped and color-matched to your teeth with the exception of an all-metal crown.

If you have tooth decay, your Island Dental dentist will remove the decayed portion of your tooth prior to making your crown to prepare your mouth for the placement of the crown.

Crowns can provide several advantages, including:

Some of the disadvantages of crowns include:

In conclusion

Veneers are used primarily for appearance and function. They do not improve the function of your teeth if they are unable to be repaired. Crowns can help with the appearance of your teeth but they also protect your teeth when protection is needed.

If your tooth has a large filling, is heavily damaged, worn or cracked, or has had a root canal, your Island Dental dentist may suggest a crown. If your tooth is in good condition and your restoration is specifically designed for cosmetic purposes, a veneer may be the best solution.

Regardless, veneers and crowns will improve the appearance of your teeth. Your smile will be improved and your self-image will improve too.

If you would like to discuss a veneer or crown with an Island Dental dentist, please contact us to schedule an appointment, or you can call us at 516-565-6565. The dentists at Island Dental Associates will discuss your dental history and your concerns with you and explain treatment options so you can make an informed decision.

SureSmile ® Aligners are considered one of the most innovative solutions for straightening teeth on the market today. It offers a much more efficient way to take care of issues that traditional metal braces cannot fix due to its high level of precision and accuracy. Unlike older methods, patients can see an improvement in their smile after only six months!

Appearance

For many people, cosmetic or orthodontic issues don’t just go away over time, they’re lifelong problems that can make it difficult to function normally on a day-to-day basis. SureSmile ® Aligners are designed to be worn almost 24 hours a day; you only remove them while eating and brushing your teeth. Despite their thin design, clear aligners offer all of these benefits

Comfort

There’s very little discomfort associated with SureSmile ® Aligners as they’re made out of soft material that reduces pressure on your gums and teeth over time. While many people choose clear aligners because they seem more convenient initially, studies show that patients are up to nine times less likely to stop treatment with oral-wear appliances when compared to in-visibility appliances like clear or metal braces.

Ease of Use

First, SureSmile ® Aligners are clear, so it’s easy to show off your smile as you work on your straightening goals. And aligners offer a better chance of success than other forms of removable retainers because they provide continuous pressure over 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (unlike nighttime retainers). Additionally, one study found that most participants experience little discomfort from aligner therapy compared to traditional treatments like Invisalign® and braces. However, if you find you are experiencing discomfort or need more pressure to keep your teeth aligned correctly during an adjustment period (usually one to two weeks), visit your dentist or orthodontist to have them take an impression of your teeth in order to create a new set of aligners that works best for you.

Treatment Time

The treatment time for traditional braces can vary depending on how quickly teeth move or if teeth need to be reshaped or moved. The average treatment time for a traditional Invisalign case runs two years, but cases that are more complicated and require more customization of aligners may take longer than two years to complete—and some may require even longer, depending on your overall health and what kind of results you’re looking to achieve.

Durability

When it comes to aligners, most patients notice a change in their teeth’s appearance within about two weeks. It usually takes about six months, though, to complete treatment with both upper and lower aligners; since teeth are reshaped gradually, you won’t need new ones until you’re done with your treatment.

You’ve probably heard stories of people who have had their dental implants last them decades, and they still look as natural as the day they were installed. But you might be wondering just how long dental implants can last—and if your own treatment will deliver that same level of longevity. Here’s what you need to know about how long dental implants can last and what your cosmetic dentist can do to ensure it last as long as possible.

The Need for Dental Implants

Teeth lost through injury, decay or periodontal disease don’t usually cause significant problems until they’re missing for an extended period of time. Dental implants are often a great solution for people with a severe dental problem that requires one or more teeth to be extracted. Before choosing to have a tooth removed and replaced with an implant, it’s important to consider how long dental implants last. A tooth implant is made of titanium and is designed to support replacement teeth for many years, but like all other materials used in dentistry, it does have limits on its longevity. If you need help determining how long dental implants last and what your options are for replacing them as needed, contact your dentist on Long Island today.

Types of Dental Implants

There are several types of dental implants and each is suited for a specific type of patient. The material an implant is made out of, and its longevity will vary. To find out which is best for you, schedule a consultation with your Long Island dentist. Here’s a breakdown

Finding the Right Dentist

When you go looking for a dentist on Long Island, you’ll quickly learn that there are plenty of choices to be made. It can seem overwhelming at first—but it’s actually pretty simple. Keep in mind that it’s best to trust your instincts when choosing a dentist. Look around and compare offices by price, location, and aesthetics (if possible). Read through patient reviews online and talk to friends who have gone through similar procedures; those personal recommendations mean more than anything an internet review can tell you. Most importantly, don’t rush into a decision: get all of your questions answered before moving forward with your procedure!

Treatment Process – Duration, Recovery Time, and Cost

The treatment process for a dental implant is divided into 3 phases. In Phase 1, also known as the surgery, we make an incision on your gum tissue and install a post made of titanium that will serve as your new tooth’s root. During Phase 2, or the interim, you’ll need to visit our office several times over a few months to have us monitor your progress. At one point in time during Phase 2, your dentist will cut down both sides of the top part of your gums to expose more of your jawbone so that we can place an implant directly into it.

Tips to Make Sure Dental Implants Last Long

A dental implant is a metal screw placed in your jawbone to support a crown, bridge, or denture. It’s considered one of today’s best solutions for replacing missing teeth. There are many factors that can affect how long dental implants last, including diet, genetics, and certain medications. Here are some ways you can make sure your implant stays put over time: Brush twice daily with ADA-approved fluoride toothpaste and use floss daily to prevent food particles from getting trapped between teeth and gums. You should also visit your dentist at least once every six months for professional cleanings (every three months if you have gum disease). Be conscious of any diseases that could be impacted by an implant failure.

Oral cancer starts in the mouth. It can be caused by smoking, drinking, or chewing tobacco. Symptoms associated with mouth cancer include a lump or sore inside the mouth, pain when chewing or swallowing, persistent sore throat, weight loss, change in voice quality, and pain in the jaw or mouth. Here are a few more things you need to know about mouth cancer.

Why It’s Difficult to Detect Mouth Cancer

Brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist are essential for maintaining healthy teeth and gums, but there are other things that you can do to maintain your oral health. For instance, by avoiding things like smoking, alcohol, and cancer-causing foods like cured meats, you can prevent cancers from developing around your mouth.

Cancers of the oral cavity and oropharynx are sometimes difficult to detect. Their symptoms may be like those of other illnesses, and they may appear in a variety of ways. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible. If left untreated, these types of cancer are usually fatal.

It can be frightening to receive a cancer diagnosis. Diverse types of cancer affect people differently. Some types of cancer are so rare that they don’t have many symptoms, while others present more signs that lead to a diagnosis.

The signs and symptoms of mouth cancer are often subtle in comparison to other cancers. The symptoms can also include unusual colored patches on the roof of the mouth or changes in taste. These symptoms are sometimes mistaken for a benign infection of the mouth. Until cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, the person may not know they have mouth cancer.

Check with Your Dentist

The most common type of cancer in the mouth is mouth cancer. Mouth cancer can be difficult to detect, so it is important to have your mouth checked regularly by a dentist.

A visit to the dentist to discuss any possible symptoms of mouth cancer is not always a pleasant experience. However, it is an invaluable part of taking care of your health. Ask your dentist about any oral health issues that you have, as well as for their recommendations regarding the treatment of any symptoms you are experiencing with your palette, gums, or teeth.

If your dentist cannot find any other causes for your signs and symptoms (such as an infection), they may refer you to a specialist to investigate the possibility of cancer.
